The Story Behind One of Country Music's Most Covered Songs

Who would have thought that an 8-year old fan seeking an autograph would be the inspiration behind a cheating song that became one of Dolly Parton's first hit singles? Parton says the little girl who asked for her autograph was "the prettiest little thing I ever saw." She asked the girl her name, and she answered "Jolene."  Parton replied, "Jolene. Jolene. Jolene. Jolene. That sounds like a song. I'm going to write a song about that." Another beautiful redhead -- a bank teller that flirted with Parton's husband shortly after they got married -- inspired the story line of the song.

Here's my version, which was performed at House of Blues (San Diego) with Nick Pupa on guitar and Jared Hill on violin.
